The Requirement
In 2021, a leading multinational company in the automotive sector embarked on a project to modernise its data network on an international scale, with the aim of replacing the traditional MPLS architecture with a more flexible, secure and cost-optimised solution.
The project was part of a digital transformation process to support business continuity, scalability of IT services andmanagement efficiency of production and commercial sites in EMEA.
The major complexity in the project arose from the need to manage the technological transition without impacting active services, operating on varied environments spread over several countries.
The Solution
N&C worked with service provider BT to complete theexpansion of the Cisco Viptela SD-WAN solution across over 130 locations in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, ensuring a scalable, high-performance deployment.
Main activities:
Design and configuration of SD-WAN policies, customised for each site according to criticality and network traffic.
- Failover testing and high reliability, to ensure continuity even in the case of fault scenarios or connectivity disruptions.
- Progressive migration from MPLS to SD-WAN, with activities on:
– local ICT infrastructure;
– upgrading of network devices;
– updating and upgrading of cabling.Network segmentation by priority levels, with:
– direct access to the internet for minor sites;
– redundant connectivity for critical locations.
The Result
The project enabled the customer to achieve a more high-performance, flexible and secure network, with tangible benefits in terms of resilience, management and operational costs.
The main benefits obtained were:
- Reduced connectivity costs by phasing out the MPLS model.
- Increased reliability and operational continuity, with tested failovers and redundant connectivity for core sites.
- Centralised scalability and visibility, with complete monitoring of traffic and application flows.
- Strategic value for the evolution of the global ICT model and the support of business-critical processes.
"We build reliable, flexible network infrastructures that support continuous innovation and provide organisations with constant, secure connectivity."
