The Requirement
A well-known company in the chemical sector turned to N&C with the aim of enhancing the security of its OT (Operational Technology) infrastructure.
The project is situated within a highly complex industrial context, where system availability and protection of production facilities are critical aspects.
The main challenge was to identify any vulnerabilities in the connected devices and in the protocols used, in order to prevent operational blockages and unauthorised access.
The Solution
The N&C team delivered a structured intervention starting with a field analysis, directly at the customer’s production plant, closely observing the operational flows and the technological environment.
The main activities included:
- On-site technical inspection, including analysis of systems and devices connected to the OT network.
- Identification of vulnerabilities in communication protocols and industrial devices.
- Evaluation of the OT network with a view to:
– preventing intrusion and unauthorised access;
– mitigating the risk of plant downtime;
– protecting critical network segments. - Detailed technical report including:
– identification of the critical issues encountered;
– operational proposals for risk mitigation;
– roadmap for improving OT security posture.
The Result
Through the project activities, the company obtained an accurate snapshot of its exposure levels and a concrete plan to secure the entire OT infrastructure.
The main benefits:
- Improved operational resilience, with a reduced risk of plant outages or compromise.
- Increased visibility of the OT ecosystem, representing an advantage in planning evolutionary interventions and future adjustments.
- Increased perimeter and interior security level, with targeted solutions for industrial environments.
- Strategic value for business continuity and protection of critical production assets.
"Security must increasingly be viewed as a necessary, rational and ongoing investment to ensure the resilience and competitiveness of organisations."
