The Requirement
The Ministry of Defence needed to modernise and digitalise the management of Armed Forces’ healthcare processes, guaranteeing uniformity, traceability and security of clinical data.
The project is part of a broader plan for the digital transformation of the Defence Administration’s internal services, with the aim of centralising and standardising the operational flows between the various health services.
The complexity of the military ecosystem and the specificity of the medical activities required made it essential to develop a flexible and highly reliable platform.
The Solution
N&C runs the IMASplatform, included within the SISAD (Defence Administration Health Information System) ecosystem, a solution adopted by all Aerospace Medical Centres (IMAS) to support the process of obtaining and maintaining flight and parachute eligibility for military and civilian personnel.
Main modules:
- GDSI: for the management of regular medical examinations and first aid for military personnel
- CMO: supporting the Departments of Forensics and Defence in the management of forensic procedures
- IMAS: for the Air Force, dedicated to the management of fitness examinations for flights and parachute jumps
Technological intervention:
- Evolutionary development of the IMAS module with microservices architecture, to ensure scalability and resilience of the system.
Integration of technologies:
- Java
- Bootstrap Italia for the interface compliant with Agency for Digital Italy Guidelines.
- Oracle as a high-performance relational database.
Adoption of security and access control logics consistent with Public Sector standards.

The SISAD platform has transformed military health management into a digital, uniform and fully traceable system.
